Bequests (Gifts Left in a Will)

GIFTS IN WILL OR BEQUEST

A will is the easiest and most effective means to ensure that you fully provide for your family and that your assets are distributed as you wish. Gifts by will or bequests provide continuing support of the ongoing work of Hospice Orillia. To include a gift to Hospice Orillia in your will, follow these two steps:

1. Record our full legal name and charitable business number: Hospice Orillia Charitable Business Number: 135837748RR0001
2. Choose one of the following sample clauses which you can share with your Legal Advisor. Although your lawyer will review all the terms of your will, the following is suggested wording for gifts to Hospice Orillia:

Standard Will Clauses
Suggested will clause wording for an unrestricted specific bequest: I give the sum of ___________ (insert a specific dollar amount) to Hospice Orillia for its general purposes as Hospice Orillia sees fit.

Suggested will clause wording for unrestricted residual bequest: I give the _____ % of the residue of my estate to Hospice Orillia for its general purposes as Hospice Orillia sees fit.

Holiday Gift Giving Guide

We are excited to share our 2025 Holiday Gift Giving Guide. If you are looking for a unique way to honour family during the holiday season why not donate in their name rather than purchasing gifts!!

Securities

A donation of securities or mutual funds is the most efficient way to give charitably. Since capital gains taxes don’t apply, our charity receives the full fair market value when the security is sold, and you get a tax receipt which reflects your larger contribution. This allows you to give more and get more.

Third Party Event Fundraiser

Third Party Events are fundraisers held on behalf of Hospice Orillia, but organized and run independently. We are grateful to the businesses, service clubs, organizations and families that donate the proceeds of these events to us. Third party events help to not only generate revenue for Hospice Orillia but also to raise public awareness of the role the Hospice Orillia plays in providing practical, emotional and spiritual support to those in our community coping with advanced illness, death and bereavement.

Although Hospice Orillia encourages third-party fundraising events, we require that events submit a third-party event registration form.  Hospice Orillia maintains the right to decline events.  This is an important safeguard in preserving the integrity of our charitable status, name and reputation as well as our commitment to our donors.  When you are ready with your plan, please fill out our third party event registration form and return either via email or regular mail.

Thank you for your interest in fundraising in support of Hospice Orillia!

Some of these Events include:

  • Barbecues
  • Birthday Parties
  • Competitions & Recreational Activities where participants solicit pledges
  • Concert
  • Galas and Dances
  • Game Nights
  • Golf Tournament
  • Local Talent Nights
  • Spa Parties
  • Wedding Gifts

Be sure to share your plans with us ahead of time so we can help celebrate and acknowledge your support! For more information please contact Amanda Tevelde, amanda@hospcieorillia.ca or (705) 325-0505 ext. 207

Understanding What You’re Feeling

Grief is a normal reaction to the loss of a loved one. It can also be a reaction to the loss of relationships, physical ability, opportunities or future hopes and dreams.

Bereavement is the state of having suffered the loss of a loved one. It is the time after a loss during which grief is experienced and mourning occurs.

Mourning is the external expression of grief. It includes rituals that mark someone’s death, such as funerals, wakes or memorial services. Mourning is strongly influenced by a person’s spiritual and cultural beliefs and practices.

Mission: Hospice Orillia offers practical, emotional and spiritual support to those in our community coping with advanced illness, death and bereavement. Our volunteers and staff serve clients and their loved ones of all ages and backgrounds with compassion and respect, while honouring their choices and supporting them through their life journey.

Vission: Hospice Orillia will be recognized as a leader in both providing and advocating for Hospice Palliative Care services within our community. We will enhance the awareness and understanding of the need for these services through education, collaboration and community involvement.

Inclusion: Hospice Orillia is committed to creating and maintaining an environment free of discrimination.  All individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and have equal opportunities. Our programs, services and opportunities will be accessible regardless of age, ancestry, colour, race, citizenship, ethnic origin, place of origin, creed, disability, family status, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, receipt of public assistance, record of offences, sex, or sexual orientation. We always provide a positive space to our clients, volunteers, and staff.

    Land Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge that the land which we are gathered on today is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabek Nation; specifically, the Chippewa Tri – Council comprised of the Chippewas of Beausoleil, Rama and Georgina Island First Nations and more recently the Mississaugas of the Credit River First Nation.

Ontario is covered by 46 treaties and other agreements and is home to many Indigenous Nations from across Turtle Island, including the Inuit and the Métis. These treaties and other agreements, including the One Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, are agreements to peaceably share and care for the land and its resources. Other Indigenous Nations, Europeans, and newcomers were invited into this covenant in the spirit of respect, peace, and friendship.

Most of us have come here as settlers, immigrants, or newcomers in this generation or generations past.

We are all Treaty people.  Every day we are mindful of broken covenants, and we strive to make this right. We commit to collaborating based on the foundational assumption that Indigenous Peoples have the power, strength, and competency to develop culturally specific strategies for their communities.  We are dedicated to honouring Indigenous self-determination, history, and culture, and are committed to moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation and respect with all First Nation, Métis and Inuit people.
