ORILLIA, ON – Hospice Orillia has been providing practical, emotional, and spiritual support to those in our community coping with advanced illness, death, and bereavement since 1989.
“We believe that death is a part of life, a rite of passage. There is much that can be done to help individuals and their families face this time with dignity and quality in their lives.” Whitney Vowels, Executive Director, Hospice Orillia explains, “We pride ourselves in honouring the fact that each person is unique and their distinctness will be respected within an atmosphere of confidentiality.”
The volunteers and staff at Hospice Orillia serve clients and their loved ones of all ages and backgroundswith compassion and respect, while honouring their choices and supporting them throughout their life journey.
The number of programs available through Hospice Orillia has grown over the past five years to include:
- Visiting Volunteer
- Facilities Dog
- Footprints Project
- Complementary Therapy
- Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support
- Virtual Memorial Events
- Specialized Grief Support Groups
- Supportive Counselling
- Equine Therapy
All programs are provided free of charge to our clients and their loved ones. This has been possibledue to the support we receive from our community.
“We are proud to have been supporting the community of Orillia and surrounding area for over 30 years.” Vowels continues, “In recognition of the support we have received we have launched our Tree of Life, aninteractive virtual donor wall.”
As a visiting hospice, public donor recognition is something that is difficult to achieve due to not having aphysical presence that clients visit. Until now that is! The Hospice Orillia Tree of Life is an interactive sitewhere individuals can visit from the comfort of their home.
“The Tree of Life incorporates the logo from our parent company, the North Simcoe Muskoka Hospice Palliative Care Network along with the names and acknowledgements of our dedicated supporters.” Amanda Tevelde, Communications and Fundraising Coordinator, Hospice Orillia notes. “Not only will we be acknowledging our financial supporters, but also our volunteers. It is one small way for us to say thank you to the community for their continued support.”
The Hospice Orillia Tree of Life will be available for viewing as of November 1st by visiting www.hospiceorillia.ca/donor-wall and for information on the supports currently available visit www.hospiceorillia.ca
